Providing secular homeschooling support

Welcome to LEARN’s CIRCLE co-op page. (CIRCLE stands for Children Involved in a Respectful Cooperative Learning Environment). We are one of LEARN’s homeschool cooperatives (co-op) open to all families in the Kansas City Metro area, regardless of educational choices. We are an arm of the LEARN Home Education Network.

CIRCLE, created in 2008, began as a group of families practicing attachment parenting principles. While we have grown to encompass families with other respectful parenting philosophies, we are still united in our desire to foster a respectful cooperative learning environment and community.

CIRCLE is a secular group and does not discriminate against anyone regarding religion, politics, race, gender, age, educational choices, or other differentiating factors. Please read LEARN’s mission statement for a more complete idea of our goals and philosophy.

All ages are welcome to participate in the CIRCLE co-op, from infants through adults. If you are looking for a respectful group which supports learning in a family environment, check us out!

I am a mother of two boys, ages 6 and 3. I’m also 29 weeks pregnant. My son is currently enrolled as a kindergartener but I’ve qualified for help with homeschool curriculum and I’m very new and uneducated with homeschooling. My son is a very loving and social boy and I don’t want to keep him from having friends. I’m VERY interested in this group. Please email me!

  22. Zhahn Ivy Gonzalez says:

Good morning! Though my daughter is only 9 months old I have been strongly considering homeschooling and have already been searching for co-ops. Your group really caught my eye because you do not discriminate and it’s hard to find that due to the fact that many co-ops in the area are religion-based. This is also attractive to me because you welcome all ages from infant to adult. I am a young mother of 19 and find it difficult to find other mothers so that my daughter has friends to play with. I am very interested in your group and would really love some additional information via email.

  23. Jennifer Stenson says:

  31. Loretta Graham says:

We have a 7 year old granddaughter who is not receiving accommodations for Sensory Processing Disoder and Anxiety Disorder. Is not able to get 504. We are wondering if there are homeschooling groups willing to educate her. Our daughter is a preschool teacher but is unable to educate her but would be available to participate daily as needed as support staff. Please advise.
    Thanks Loretta Graham

    • codenamemama says:

Hi Loretta, I’d suggest you look into your state’s law regarding homeschooling. While homeschool groups are often accustomed to working with children who have various special needs, none are required to give accommodations, as schools are. I am not personally aware of any homeschool groups in the area (certainly not LEARN) that provide education services that would specifically fit your needs. You’d also run into legal restrictions (for example in MO you can’t legally pay someone to homeschool your child, and in MO you are required to offer a minimum of 600 educational hours at home). There are a number of homeschool enrichment programs in the area that run 1-2 days a week that you could perhaps cobble together, but again, none have any obligation to provide accommodations.

If you are able, your best bet might be to homeschool your granddaughter yourself, because “family” is allowed to do the teaching – it doesn’t have to just be mom. You could also consider hiring a nanny who would take your granddaughter to outside enrichment classes/social events.

      Good luck with your decision!
